Goldenport Odessa is celebrating an important anniversary in January 2019, company’s presence in Ukrainian market for 20 years. The company started to employ Ukrainian seafarers in 1998 and today about 1,500 Ukrainian crewmembers are being employed onboard Goldenport and Oceangold vessels annually. That is why Odessa, the largest Ukrainian port, will be one of the key locations of this broad-scale celebration. International conference arranged for the company’s partners, maritime industry experts and crews, as well as a formal banquet will take place in the conference hall of the legendary Bristol hotel in Odessa. All those who were directly involved in the company’s activities in Ukraine will gather for celebration: top managers, heads of business units, bank representatives, Classification Societies, Odessa Maritime Academy, lawyers, seafarers, human resources managers and the employees of company’s crew departments.
Along with Ukrainians, the company employs seafarers from Russia, Georgia, Ethiopia, Croatia and Bulgaria. Yet the management of Goldenport places its stake on Ukrainians. The company’s founder Cpt. Paris Dragnis believes that our seafarers demonstrate high professionalism and consistent discipline. Competence of Ukrainian seafarers is impressive. Young men are career oriented, and according to Cpt. Paris, they have every chance of finding a decent job on vessels of foreign shipowners. Being a member of the Greek Shipowners’ Association, Mr. Ioannis Dragnis and Mr. Vassilios Dragnis know how important it is to attract and bring in Shipping Industry promising as well as well educated young seafarers. No wonder that Goldenport Odessa believed to be one of the most stable companies in the Ukrainian employment market, co-operating with the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”.
Goldenport Group is consisted of the following companies: Goldenport Shipmanagement Ltd, Oceangold Tankers Inc. and Golden Yachts. Oceangold Tankers Inc is the “youngest” company of the group, established in 2007 and since December 2016 started its operation in Odessa as Oceangold Odessa hiring Ukrainian crewmembers. Based on results of the previous year (2018) more than 100 Ukrainian seafarers have been employed on the company’s tankers through its Odessa office. Today the group’s fleet consists of 27 vessels (12 bulk carriers, 5 containers, 10 tankers and additionally 8 luxurious mega yachts).
The Goldenport Group is presently running a highly ambitious “new building vessels” project and will acquire 2 bulk carriers and 6 tankers in the next two years. Delivery of the first two new building tankers will be effected on February 2019 and the 2 bulk carriers along with the four tankers will be enrolled in Group’s fleet up to mid 2020. All Groups’ vessels are designed in line with the latest requirements to compliance with environmental standards.
The 92% of the Company’s crew members are Ukrainians, and the company’s offices in Odessa and Mariupol work directly with Goldenport’s head office. International conferences and broad-scale celebrations for seafarers and office employees held by Goldenport in late autumn or early winter have become a good tradition. This year’s event will take place in Odessa for the third time. The company’s founder has worked at sea for 35 years and he knows very well how important such meetings between the employer and seafarers in informal surroundings are. Such approach is useful for summing up interim results for the previous year and makes it possible to talk about plans for the future, to discuss current situation in the shipping industry and to define priorities and further vector of development.
